Zantac Cases
What is Zantac?
Zantac is the brand name for a medication called ranitidine, which many people use to treat stomach acid disorders. This medication functions by blocking a chemical produced in the body called histamine. This chemical tells your body to create more acid and pump it into the stomach. If you have too much stomach acid, you may have painful and serious health consequences. By blocking histamine, Zantac helps reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces.
Health and Safety Concerns After Using Zantac
One of the primary concerns for people taking Zantac is the presence of a carcinogen, called N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). Carcinogens are chemicals or products which increase your likelihood of developing cancer, which makes their presence in food and medications particularly dangerous.
This chemical is created as a by-product during many different types of manufacturing. Although NDMA is typically a liquid, you can find this chemical in many different environments, including the air, water sources, food, and soil. Producing the primary ingredient in Zantac, called ranitidine, creates a significant amount of NDMA.
